NEW : Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives; Nancy Pelsoi wrote President Bush on April 22nd, 2008 . She very clearly described what high fuel prices are doing to American families and businesses. In addition she then asked him to work with Congress to allow the Justice Department to pursue oil cartel price-fixing, allow the Federal Trade Commssion the authority to investigate and punish price gougers, end taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil and invest those funds in renewable American energy. Lastly to use the authority given to it by Congress to end market manipulation. Stating , " We can not wait to act on these price increases. " She asked that he ( President Bush ) work with Congress to get the following pieces of legislation, which have already passed the U.S. House , to his desk for his signature : The No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels ( NOPEC) Act - HR 2264 , The Energy Price Gouging Act - H.R. 1252, The Renewable Energy and Enegry Conservation Act of 2008- H.R. 5351 and the Market Manipulation Provisions in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which makes it unlawful for any person to take manipulative action or report false information on the wholesale price of gasoline or petroleum and requires the Federal Trade Commission to enforce and punish those found guilty of such actions. ( In addition she stated that the President's Administartion's efforts to persuade OPEC to increase their oil production to bring prices down, has failed even in the face of his considerable influenece over OPEC nations ). She urged President Bush to work with the New Direction Congress, as leadership and to help them address the skyrocketing prices at the pump.

NEW: On April 24th, 2008 , Congressman Tom Allen called on the U.S. Department of Justice's Hon. Michael B. Mukasey to launch an immediate investigation into oil future's speculation and those who may be the fueling force behind it.
NEW LEGISLATION PROPOSED
Last night U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) introduced legislation which will require that 100 percent of fuel surcharges paid by shippers be passed through to whoever actually pays for the fuel to haul the shipper's goods, obviously in most cases that's truckers. S. 2910, the "Trust in Reliable Understanding of Consumer Costs Act" or "TRUCC Act" will ensure that middlemen will no longer be able to skim or pocket fuel surcharges that should be going to truckers. Senators Snowe and Brown worked closely with OOIDA on this legislation. Please call the offices of your 2 Senators to ask them to support S.2910. Ask your Senators to commit their support for S. 2910 by signing on as cosponsors of the bill.
The legislation was just introduced so the Senators and their staff may not yet be familiar with the bill; this may be a great opportunity for you to educate them on fuel surcharges and the trucking industry.
To contact your 2 Senators, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, provide the operator with your home zip code and they will connect you with the offices of your elected representatives.
You are also welcome to call OOIDA at (800) 444-5791. Association staff will be happy to help put you in touch with your elected representatives.

IT is HIGH TIME that WE ALL wrote, faxed, emailed and called our U.S. Congressmen and Congresswomen and INSISTED they do just that, press the President to sign into law what is needed to rein in high fuel prices and those that are the driving force behind them as well.

A Prayer :
Dear God , bless our ventures, give us each the strength to endure and
bring about positive successes. Lead us to those we must work with to
begin to make a difference. When we find them may our voices be your
voice and may the ears of those we need to help us be your ears. May we
then go forward and do your work, together. To you be the glory!
Amen.
